Abstract

The dynamic nature of global markets and technological advancement has significantly
reshaped marketing practices and innovation adoption within industries. In Nigeria,
industrial firms face unique challenges and opportunities arising from evolving
consumer demands, competitive pressures, and the integration of digital technologies.
This study examines the intersection of marketing strategies and innovation adoption in
Nigerian industries, focusing on how firms leverage marketing to drive product, process,
organizational, and digital innovation. The study adopts a conceptual and empirical
approach, reviewing historical and contemporary trends in innovation within Nigeria’s
industrial sector and benchmarking these against practices in other emerging
economies. The analysis identifies critical drivers of innovation, including market
orientation, customer engagement, strategic alliances, and resource capabilities, while
highlighting barriers such as infrastructural deficits, limited funding, and regulatory
constraints. The study further explores theoretical frameworks relevant to innovation
adoption, including the Diffusion of Innovation Theory, Resource-Based View, and
Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, demonstrating their
applicability in understanding the strategic and operational dimensions of innovation in
the Nigerian context. Empirical evidence underscores that firms employing integrated
marketing strategies alongside knowledge-based and digital capabilities are better
positioned to achieve competitive advantage, enhance customer satisfaction, and
stimulate industrial growth. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers,
industry managers, and marketing practitioners seeking to foster an innovation-driven
industrial ecosystem in Nigeria. Ultimately, the study contributes to the discourse on
emerging-market industrial innovation by linking marketing strategies with innovation
performance, emphasizing the role of digital transformation, consumer-centric practices,
and knowledge management in driving sustainable industrial development.
