STRATEGIC INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURING EFFECTIVENESS IN OIL AND GAS FIRMS IN RIVERS STATE.

This study investigated the relationship between the effectiveness of organizational restructuring and strategic information management in oil and gas companies in Rivers State, Nigeria. Specifically, it investigated the relationship between information quality, access to information, integration of information and operational coordination, cost effectiveness and adaptation capability, as well as the moderating effect of the leadership support. The study was grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model and the Organizational Change Theory, both of which provide a foundation for understanding the impact of information systems and leadership on employee acceptance, coordination and organizational adjustment in the context of restructuring. The Cross Section Survey research design was used and data collected from 90 employees of twenty-five oil and gas company in Rivers State. The respondents were comprised of IT and cybersecurity staff, compliance officers, internal auditors and secretaries and a census sampling technique was employed. A structured five-point likert scale questionnaire was used to collect data and it was comprised of items that were expert validated and reliable with a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.82. Spearman's rank order correlation coefficient was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results indicated that the information quality was found to be significantly correlated with operational coordination, information accessibility was found to be significantly correlated with cost effectiveness, information integration was found to be significantly correlated with adaptation capability, and leadership support was found to be significantly correlated with organizational restructuring effectiveness. Overall, the study found that proper use of Strategic information management improves coordination, efficiency and adaptability, which leads to better restructuring results, and that leadership support facilitates the restructuring process.
